Celebrity memoirs are not necessarily my thing, but I always end up reading a few here and there - in the last couple of years I’ve also read Spare and I’m Glad My Mom Died, both well worth reading if you’ve been living under a rock (or just also not into celebrity memoirs) and haven’t. But I did have a reading prompt this year, “A celebrity on the cover,” and I thought, why not.
Kelly Bishop has had quite an interesting life and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her tell her story. I think if you come into it as a super fan of Gilmore Girls you might be disappointed, as that doesn’t become part of the story until about 2/3 of the way through, but if you like theater, musicals, and just generally hearing about show business and kick-ass women, it’s a very enjoyable book.
The inclusion of the pictures at the end I found to be quite touching as well. Like many shorter books, I did wish this one was a bit longer and went a bit more into detail in some areas - but it also feels unfair to ask people who already have so little privacy to share more than they’re comfortable with.
